Labor Day = Wedding Planning Day

I was supposed to spend my Labor Day weekend at the beach, by the pool, boating, floating, grilling and watching football. However, the tropical storm had other plans and the fact that I don't live anywhere near Oklahoma anymore, I couldn't catch my Oklahoma State Cowboys play. (I gotta convince my husband to get the NCAA sports pass!)

This was the weather last weekend when we got to go boating. Now it is all rain. *Sigh*

Anyway, I hope you all didn't get rained out and got to enjoy your long weekends and your day off of work today! I remember when I was planning my wedding, this day off only meant a day to do some wedding planning things while I actually had time. I will say Happy Labor Day! But, if you are using this time to work on some DIY projects, browse for cake designs or taking the time to read a few pages of your Emily Post Wedding Etiquette 5th Edition book (my fave wedding planning book), well then I also will say Happy I-Finally-Have-Some-Free-Time-To-Work-On-My-Wedding Day!

I may be stuck inside from the rain, but I get to look at my Mila's face! Don't you love those eyes! Where is she looking? Lol!

Corinthians Series {8} Love is Not Easily Angered

In case you missed the start of this series, check out the kick off of breaking down this popular wedding ceremony reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Part Eight looks at

What does it mean to not be angered? It is defined by dictionary.com as this:

1. A strong feeling of displeasure, and belligerence aroused by a wrong; wrath; ire. 

2. Grief, trouble

How might we see this in our relationship and marriage?
- Freaking out because he left the toilet seat up
- Snapping at him because he broke your favorite wine glass
- Giving the silent treatment because he said something you didn't like

- Yelling every time you have a disagreement rather than talking and listening to each other's side

At the beginning of your relationship you may have heard that true love is loving the things about the other person that annoy you. Go back to that thought. Don't forget that this person is to be your partner and that they aren't out to get you. Rather than being angry all the time, find a way to let your partner know that something bothers you, ask them politely to do something for you because it would make you happy if they did. Don't yell. Don't snap. It will only cause you frustration when your spouse shuts down and possibly responds with anger as well.

Anniversary: Sheri and Rob One Year

I am so excited to share my first anniversary shoot feature on the blog today. This adorable shoot came to my inbox from Delaware photographer Kaila Regina and I was so thrilled to share it. I think I was even more excited because I have wanted to do an anniversary shoot, so when I see them, I get that much more convinced that I should do it. Bride's Prayer: No Dad to Walk With

Perhaps you don't have a relationship with your father, maybe your father is too sick to travel to where your wedding is, maybe your father passed away and you are heart broken that you won't get the traditional image of being walked down the aisle with your dad.

Of course there is always the ability to walk down the aisle with a man who has been a father figure like a step dad, to walk with your brother, or a friend who was like your brother, or even walk with your mother.

However, I want to emphasize that we all have a heavenly father who is with us at all times. That even if you walk down the aisle by yourself, you aren't alone.

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? - 1 Corinthians 3:16

We can always count on God to be there even when those we count on on this Earth may not be there. You may be hurt by the father who renounces you or saddened by the father who you love dearly and cannot physically be around any longer, but with God you never have to be hurt or sad.

. . . for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” - Hebrews 13:5

The Prayer:

God, I am so thankful to be able to call you Father. You are enough to be the one to give me strength. Help me to focus on what I do have and who I am blessed by rather then what I have lost and been hurt by. I pray that my earthly father is with you (in his heart/in heaven). While the situation I am in makes me sad, I know you are there.

Dialogue: Bridal Party Garb

So you may wonder if you are supposed to pay for the bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen's tuxes or if they pay for it themselves. Because of our budget we had our buy their own stuff but they knew that when we asked them so they could have declined if it was a financial burden. I also know some people who think it is rude if you don't. But if you have a big bridal party, who can really front those costs unless you got lots of dough?

I don't think it is rude to make them pay if you are up front about it and are considerate to the costs by not selecting the most expensive dress, allowing flexibility on shoes for bargain shopping and to shop around for the best tux rental costs. I myself don't even mind if I was a bridesmaid to pay for my own dress and shoes as long as the bride was reasonable.

I love this option of letting the bridesmaid find their own dresses within a color shade. Gives them room to bargain shop.
