The Pickle: You want to make your own wedding planning organizer but you don't even know where to start as far as what to include in it, how to divide it, how big it should be, etc.
The Solution: Follow these steps to make sure your binder is actually helpful to you and not a hot mess!

The binder should be handy to carry your stuff but not carry everything. You probably don't want to go larger than 1 1/2 inch ring binder because then you won't even want to carry that thing anywhere! Also get one of those that have the ability to slip in a cover so you can customize it. And, don't forget pockets, I honestly don't know why any binder is made without pockets.
2. The Tabs
You can get regular dividers however I would recommend the kind with side pockets or pocket folders. This comes in handy when storing receipts and business cards that pertain to the category the divider is used for. Here is a great pdf that gives a visual of what I am suggesting, though they also suggest getting dividers and a card holder, but I find that the pocket folders do the job.
3. Categories
You don't want to go too broad and just divide it like Ceremony and Reception with sub-categories because then you will have too much in just one division which can make it more difficult to find stuff but you don't want a tab for every single thing. How much would you really have for in a tab for just linens? I would suggest Florals and Decor, Venues, Photography/Videographers, Food and Drink, Bridal Party, Bridal Attire, and Entertainment. Then you can store notes, contract copies, pictures from magazines, receipts, brochures, proposals, etc. Also, budgetplannersoftware.com has some worksheets you can use for your binder.
4. Add in a Folder and Notebook Paper
I like having a folder that has the holes to insert it into your binder. It helps if you have to go to a quick meeting with a vendor and there is no need to bring all your cake and dress inspirations with you to see the DJ. Take out the folder and put in the things you need to get to quickly or need to have on hand if you are currently dealing with it.
5. Decorate
Make a collage or print something from the computer or use a pretty picture from a magazine to put on the cover of your binder. Make it you!
Throw in a budget tracker and a time line to-do list and you are all set to go!
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. - Ephesians 4:2-3
