Guest Post: Many Ways to Say I Love You

My to-do list is not getting any shorter, so I am super happy to get to share another guest post for you today while I am busy wading my way through boxes! Get ready for some lovely eye-candy!

Hello!  I’m Sarah from the wedding blog, A Paper Proposal | Inspired Weddings, and I’m so excited to be a guest on Wedding Pickle today!  Like most wedding bloggers, I am a romantic at heart, so when I was contemplating what to write about today, I thought it would be fun to showcase the many, many beautiful ways to say, “I love you.”  Whether you say it on paper with poetry, handwritten notes or even paint chips, or with gifts of flowers, hammered spoons or jewelry, there really is no more meaningful an addition to your wedding day. 

While I think it’s up to you to decide if you want to do a private “first look” or not before your wedding ceremony, I will always encourage you to exchange a little love letter or gift with your partner right before you walk down the aisle.  The morning leading up to the ceremony can be crazy.  You’re worried about how your veil looks in your hair, where the flower girl’s shoes are and whether or not the centerpieces have been set up properly.  Taking that minute or two to reflect on your feelings and relationship with your partner puts things into perspective right before you say, “I do”.  My husband and I wrote notes to one another to exchange and read before the ceremony, and while it was nothing fancy, reading his note was one of the most special moments of my day.  I get to keep it forever, too!  Taking a private moment or two to read his words soothed my nerves and made me even MORE excited to see him at the end of the aisle!  It reminded me of what I was really there to do that day – to marry the man I loved.

So say it in lights, with your very own red “love bug,” in red tissue paper or with a single red rose…just remember to make your wedding day about L.O.V.E !!!

Corinthians Series {6} Love Does Not Dishonor

In case you missed the start of this series, check out the kick off of breaking down this popular wedding ceremony reading: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Part Six looks at

What does it mean to have dishonor? It is defined by dictionary.com as this: 

1. lack or loss of honor; disgraceful or dishonest character or conduct.

2. disgrace; ignominy; shame
3. an indignity; insult
4. a cause of shame or disgrace

How might we see this in our relationship and marriage?
- Dishonoring vows by cheating
- Not telling the truth to your spouse. Hiding something from them shows how you don't honor them and value them enough to trust them with a truth.
- Throwing your spouse under the bus as the saying goes for you not to look bad. There is nothing good that can come from chipping away at your partner, revealing their weaknesses or opinions, just to keep an image, get ahead or to gain the trust of others over your spouse.
- Doing an activity that brings shame to your family that tears the relationship apart rather than building it up.

Be true, be loyal and be fair with your spouse and you will honor your relationship in the best way. :-)

Guest Post: Why Get Wedding Insurance?

I have to say, I can get used to living in Florida! We finally found our new home, and now it is all about setting up our internet so that I can be in full blogging force again! (I type this using the hotel's internet, lol) That and our belongings are still on the way so I don't even have chairs! I have a great guest post for you today. How many times have we seen the debate on whether or not to have a full bar at a wedding reception? A cash bar is out of the question and the wedding reception won’t be the same without alcoholic beverages and a signature cocktail or two.  Of course we want to entertain the guests and make sure that they’re happy as well.  What happens when they become a little too happy?

Did you know that having Wedding Liability Insurance can help, in the event that someone is injured due to alcohol related accidents or property damage done to your reception venue.  In fact, many venues are now starting to require liability insurance, which comes in $500,000, $1 million, or $2 million policies.  The last thing I’d want to do is worry about an accident when I should be enjoying my honeymoon.  A guest having had too much to drink, not able to drive home, or someone deciding to dance from the chandelier, does not equal fun.

We all like to have a good time, but unfortunately we also have to be prepared for unpleasant incidentals.  Even when we decide that having alcohol is too much of a hassle for us and decide not to make it a part of the reception, I’ve seen guests who have snuck in their own alcohol.  It can turn your intended event into something entirely different.  I’ve always said it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.  For as little as $150, you can have a policy that’s $500,000 from WedSafe.com.

There is also Wedding Event Insurance that protects your wedding day from cancellation or postponement due to extreme measures, such as extreme weather, sudden illness, or an accident.  It also protects against the bride or groom being in the military and their leave has been canceled or a vendor not delivering as promised on your wedding day.

The planning of a wedding should be fun and exciting. We don’t like to think of the bad that may happen but we should want to plan ahead for the possibility anyway.  You want to protect your investment into your wedding day and have the peace of mind that things will definitely all be ok after your wedding day has come and gone.

Guest Post: Get that Shot in a Time Crunch

As you read this I am probably stressing out about finding a place to live. My hubby and I hope to find a house to rent before the weekend because there is a truck out there with our stuff coming to Pensacola with no address. I have some wonderful guest bloggers to help fill in and pick up the slack while I transition and adjust to my new home here in Pensacola.


Today I have Jessica of Two Wedding Belles: Event Coordination and Wedding Inspiration, one of my favorite blogs to check out, talking about making time to get those shots you really want from your wedding day so that you don't have regrets!

Pickle: You're under a time crunch for capturing photos on your wedding day. This could be the result of time restrictions at the ceremony and/or reception location, strict cut-off times with certain vendors, or a larger than usual wedding party.

Solution: Plan ahead and get creative - and you'll get all of those heavily coveted shots.

First, start off by concocting a plan of attack with your photographer. He or she will tell you what photos can get done in how much time.

Second, consider splitting your photos up throughout the day. If you have some time before the ceremony, and are open to doing formal shots with your groom and your whole wedding party then, go for it. If you're just too traditional for that, then try to pick a convenient location for the shots to get taken between the ceremony and reception. Seek out locations that provide either a blank or visually interesting backdrop, which can often be as simple as a nearby park or building facade.

Next, be specific with your photog about what shots you want to get. The more detailed you can be with groupings of bridal party members or poses for you and your groom, the quicker you'll be able to move from one set-up to the next and you'll minimize the downtime between shots.

Finally, think about adding on the second shooter option to your photog's base package, if one isn't already included. This not only allows for a greater range of photos in general when you scroll through that online gallery after the wedding, but will also ensure that if you're getting formal photos during either the cocktail hour or a part of the reception*, you won't be missing out on getting guest photos during that same time.

*Yes, I said reception. I know some people are committed to being on the dance floor for the entirety of their reception (hey, after all those long hours of planning...you deserve it!), but just 10 minutes with your photographer during the reception can allow for some formal photos that you may not have captured yet (family photos, etc).

Blog Around the World: Out of Africa #10

Hello Lovelies! I am Alicia from The Charity Wedding and I am excited to present another round of Blog Around the World with some of my favorite wedding bloggers! I am so excited to be taking part in this Blog Around the World feature! When I saw these books in the shoot I thought, "How cool to find such beautiful vintage books!" I always ran across them in the stacks at my university library, but then I thought, what about if you wanted a blank book for a scrapbook or a guestbook? They just don't come old, so you got to make them old! Below is the link to the instructions on making a new book look vintage. :-)

How to make a book cover look old

Here are my tips that I thought I would throw in when I made my own "old" book.
- You can use a dark or light cover book. With a dark cover book, I found that brushing the coffee over it is not necessary. The sand paper does a good job with the aging of the book. However, it does warp the cover a bit so it has more of that damaged old book. Still looks cool!
- You'll definitely want to do this over newspaper or something to protect whatever surface you are working on. Sanding a book gets messy!
- Use fine to medium sand paper. Too gritty might be too rough, too fine will make you have to work harder.
- Definitely do the sanding before the coffee staining. The dust from the sanding gets on the moist pages. Unless you actually wait for it to dry. (I was just impatient)
- Brush the coffee on the edges of the pages to make them look browned and aged with the cover.
- Burning the corners of the book wasn't necessary because the sanding did a good job on the corners. However, it may have a better appearance with a light cover book so you can actually see the result of the burning.
