Dialogue: What do you Call Your In-Laws?

I remember my in-laws and telling me how they would love if I called them Mom and Dad. I still feel weird calling them Mom and Dad, but I do see them as my new parents.

For me it wasn't so much calling them Mom and Dad that was weird, it was the fact that I never really called them anything before. I never had to address them by name let alone Mom and Dad! I don't even call my own parents Mom and Dad. (Momma and Daddy is what I use for my parents!). It is still a work in progress for me. Heck, I'm still trying to accept that my maiden name is not mine anymore!

This subject had me wondering what you are dealing with. Are you calling your in-laws Mom and Dad already? Or is it still weird for you as it is for me? Or have your in-laws not even invited you to call them that?

Tell me I'm not the only one who goes to writing an email thinking, "Do I say Mom?" Share your thoughts!

Pickle: Relationship with the In-Laws

After a weekend with my In-laws, I was inspired to start my week talking about the relationship dynamics of what will be your new set of parents. I have known my in-laws for years but spending time with them without my husband, well this weekend was a first!

I must say that I am so blessed to have such a wonderful relationship with my new parents and I love them so much! The thing that I learned is that I probably put more pressure on myself to impress them or make them feel comfortable than I needed to. I really didn't need to stress. They already love me. We had fun together, and while I wasn't the best hostess (I can't cook so we ate out every night) it was still a wonderful time that I feel lucky that I got to have it. I am always with my husband around them and this time I got to have them to myself. It really was nice!

The Pickle: Impressing the In-Laws

The Solution: I learned that in my efforts and stress to want to impress them by being the best daughter-in-law on the planet I only wasted my time. I defaulted to me being myself and we had a good time. Lesson learned.

Be yourself.

They already know who you are (or if they don't) they know their son. If he loves you, they should love you too, just the way you are.

And if they don't like you and you can't get along, still keep being yourself. Never compromise who your are. Your man doesn't want to marry you for who they want you to be. He wants to marry YOU!

I guess today's pickle was more of a life tip! Have a wonderful Monday!
