Tips from the Photographer:
Hire a professional photographer. Do a little background homework first. Spend some time on the internet or talking to friends who’ve recently been married. Get an idea of what you like and don’t like. Wedding websites and blogs can be a great resource. This way when you meet with the professional photographer you’ll be able to ask better questions and have an idea of what to look out for. Be cautious of ‘friends-with-cameras’ and ‘wanna-be-wedding-
Have a Face to Face Meeting. Comparing professional photographers solely on price or packages is NEVER a good thing. One photographers idea of a wedding album may be a far stretch from another’s. An ‘in person’ meeting is the best way to interview a potential photographer and the only way to view their sample albums. It lets you get the full experience of their personality, style and professionalism. If that’s not possible, at least have a phone conversation.
Create a realistic timeline with room for adjustments and travel. Brides hire photographers based on their style and personality; and, of course, the images shown in sample albums and websites. These images do not happen by “magic”, professional photographers will have an agenda for the wedding day. Make sure to coordinate the time-line with your photographer. Rule of thumb (without travel): the bride should be dressed and ready for pictures 2 hours prior to the ceremony, meaning the bridesmaids' are picture ready 2 and 1/2 hours prior to ceremony time. The Bridal and bridal party portraits are then taken leaving the remaining hour (directly prior to the ceremony) for bridal touchup’s and Groom and Groomsmen formals. Your guest WILL start arriving one hour prior to the ceremony, and you do not want to be taking pictures prior to your grand entrance! Keep in mind, if anything runs late or does not start according to plan; i.e. hair, make-up, travel time, ceremony- the entire day’s schedule is not adjusted, time is just taken away from your photography.
