Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Part Seven looks at
What does it mean to not be self-seeking? It is defined by dictionary.com as this:
1. the act or an instance of seeking one's own profit or interest, esp exclusively
2. having or showing an exclusive preoccupation with one's own profit or interest: a self-seeking attitude
How might we see this in our relationship and marriage?
- Getting the other a gift to butter them up just to ask for something you want for yourself
- Getting the other a gift to butter them up just to ask for something you want for yourself
- Going to all the games with him just to use it against him when you want him to go to the antique store with you
- Making him his favorite meal just to ask for money
We all know it is better to give than to receive and we should not want to give in order to receive. Be self-less, put his needs above yours because you desire his happiness. Of course, the reward is that he will put you and your happiness first and you both win! Go to the game because you simply desire to be with him and you may be surprised the next time you want to shop for linens that he goes with you just to be with you. :-)
