1. Constant pursuit of inspiration
There is no such thing as a professional who knows all and has done it all. We all are always learning and it is what makes us better. If you see this vendor being a member of a professional organization, active on social media talking with other wedding professionals, constantly updating pinterest boards for ideas, and/or you see lots of relevant books in their office bookshelves, then you might just have found a vendor is isn't stagnant and is in love with what they do!
2. They light up
That florist may be the best in the biz, but when you mention something you want done for your wedding and they seem to cringe and try to give you alternatives making you feel like your idea is impossible or dumb for not realizing the details of seasonal flowers, then it is best to pass that florist up. When you talk about your ideas and dreams for the vision of your wedding and the vendor lights up and starts spitting out more ideas and ways things can be done with excitement in their tone, then you found the right one. By that behavior you can be assured that the vendor wants to make your wedding the best it can be for you!
3. They are prompt and punctual
If someone is a professional, then they know a thing or two about the value of time. They value their time and make sure none is wasted. Even better, they value your time. Isn't that the reason you hire professionals? They make your planning easier, help you stress less and let you enjoy more time for planning your wedding with a smile on your face. :-) If they aren't responding to your emails and phone calls promptly and are showing up late to meetings late, it may be a red flag for when it comes time to the wedding day.
4. They have a contract
I remember when I was booking vendors for my wedding, my DJ, cake maker/caterer and venue didn't have a contract. I can't say that I wasn't nervous for what would happen if something went wrong. Luckily, I didn't have any issues. Well, except for the cake and the catering. She was rude and she made the wrong cake design. Something I'll hold a grudge about for the rest of my life no doubt! lol. If a vendor has a contract that not only protects them but protects you, then that sense of insurance will put you at ease.
5. They make you feel comfortable
Ultimately, it always comes down to personality compatibility. This is important for feeling comfortable about speaking up of what you want changed or for really being able to speak of what you want without feeling judged by the vendor. They can be the best but if you don't get along or you feel intimidated, then you are in for a unpleasant experience! Definitely not worth it when it comes to one of the most important days of your life!
