Our story began in the spring of 2004 at a Jump Little Children concert at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem. I drove from Elon University with my roommate, Becki, to see the concert and Benjamin came with his roommate, Andy, from Wake Forest to see the concert. As it turns out, both roommates actually grew up in Winston-Salem and knew each other from high school through a mutual friend. We were introduced to each other that night by the two roommates but very few words were exchanged at the time. Later on, Becki strongly suggested that Ben and I get together and talk again. According to her, "he is just so nice and you are just so nice and you should get together. The end." Very simple, right?
We started dating officially in late summer 2004 (the beginning of our sophomore year). We dated throughout the rest of college despite the fact that we were an hour apart and only saw each other periodically. Then, we graduated and had to make a decision. I decided to go to graduate school at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania while Ben decided to attend graduate school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. It was very difficult for us to be that far apart but we managed to make it. Benjamin proposed in the Summer of 2009 by Lake Mary Nell on the Elon University Campus with a beautiful ring from Tiffany's that he purchased himself from the flagship store in New York City. In the Spring of 2010 we finally made it to the same town...back to Winston-Salem.
We are so grateful to finally be in the same town together! In the beginning we were fortunate enough to both work in the Athletic Services Office as tutors at Wake Forest. Now, we are both working full time at our new jobs. Ben is an Executive Team Leader of Human Resources at Target and Genevieve is the Food Safety Manager at Salem Baking Company.
