My husband and I met as summer associates at the same law firm. We were friends and then realized our favorite part of the day was sitting next to each other at work. I thought Chris might like me when he asked me to go to a Redskins game. I knew he did when I realized it was the game against the Cowboys.
Chris had planned to propose a few weeks before my birthday in February 2010. He had originally planned take me out on a Saturday night after I had spent the whole day helping a friend pick out a wedding dress. Due the incoming blizzard, however, he had to push up the proposal because he did not know how bad the weather would be. I was having an awful day at work that Thursday, so he thought what better way to cheer me up than to propose!
He got me to leave the office a little early so that we could go have a drink at the St. Regis hotel. Afterwards, he took me home and walked our dog, Tank, and I took out my contacts and washed my face. When I came out of the bathroom, he was on one knee and had the ring on Tank's collar. Since I did not have my glasses on, I did not see it and did not realize what was happening until he asked me to marry him. His favorite part of the story is that I did not look at the ring until after we called our parents. I was so excited to marry him, what the ring looked like did not matter (although I loved it).
We got married on 12.11.10. The morning of our wedding, we were still waiting for our rings to be delivered. I started to panic but Chris had a backup plan. We would use his parents rings if ours did not arrive. Even though they were not ours, they would still be special because his parents had a wonderful marriage and since his mom had passed away, it would be a way to have her there with us. While we were able to get our rings just before the ceremony, I still wore his mom's ring the whole day.
